GUTSY FILM FESTIVAL
THE FOUNDER

Hello, I’m Amy - a freelance documentary filmmaker and producer.

I’ve worked across BAFTA-nominated and RTS award-winning programmes, contributing to the development and production of documentaries for major platforms including Netflix, Amazon, Apple TV, BBC and Channel 4.

In 2024, after a year of living with unexplained fatigue and pain, I was diagnosed with a chronic illness. On top of that, I was faced with navigating an already unpredictable freelance world, now with the added challenge of a hidden disability.
For a while, I kept my diagnosis quiet, worried that being open about it might cost me work, especially if I were up against someone not living with a chronic condition; and it felt isolating.

But as I began to feel better, and manage my condition through medication, I became more open about what I had been through. I had countless conversations with fellow filmmakers and creatives who are also living with chronic illnesses and hidden disabilities.

Out of those conversations, Gutsy Film Festival was born: a night to showcase and celebrate the work of filmmakers who’ve been quietly navigating these challenges behind the scenes.

There are no restrictions on genre or theme, your film doesn’t have to be about illness or disability - we are all more than our diagnoses. The only requirement is that the films are under 12 minutes.

I hope that Gutsy Film Festival will be a chance for people to connect, network and perhaps feel a little less alone.

Can’t wait to see you there,
Amy x
